Bill “Hooter” Houston became Helena American Legion General Manager in 2014 and is in his second stint with the Helena Senators, as he served in the same capacity from 1993-97. Prior to that he coached Babe Ruth baseball from 1998-92, and later served as the Class A District and State A chairman for Montana American Legion Baseball, from 1998-2013.

Houston notes the “uniqueness” of Helena Legion baseball, considering that the crosstown rivalry between Helena High and Capital “disappears since they play together as a team,” along with the development of friendships among players from both sides of town.

“As a Veterans organization we try to instill pride, good moral character, discipline, loyalty and good sportsmanship into our young men,” Houston said. “With an excellent coaching staff under the leadership of head coach Dave Thennis, we’ll try to keep those same standards as in the past.”
