Aggressive base-running, sacrifice bunts, squeeze plays steals, extra bases on errors.
When the bats aren’t providing their usual offensive output, Helena Reps head coach Jon Burnett will pull out the “small ball” playbook to generate runs.
Tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the 8th inning, the Reps scraped out 5 runs on 3 Bozeman errors, a hit-by-pitch, a bunt single, and a timely two-run double from Brady Anderson to pull away from the Bozeman Bucks for a 8-3 victory.
The 8th inning was a microcosm of the games as a whole, as Helena was able to generate their other 3 runs on an RBI groundout, a Bozeman error, and a Matt Krieger suicide squeeze bunt. There were 9 errors between the two teams, with only 3 of the 11 runs earned.
Riley Chisholm and Krieger chipped in a pair of hits for the Reps, while Kadyn Craigle, Zach Spiroff, and Anderson all contributed a double. Ryan Barrett was stellar on the mound, giving up no earned runs and just 5 hits over 7 complete innings. Krieger gave up just a hit over the final two innings to earn the victory for Helena.
The win keeps Helena undefeated on the season at 7-0. They will next host Missoula on Friday, May 19th at 7:00 p.m. at Kindrick Legion Field.
