The Great Falls Chargers nipped the Helena Senators at Missoula’s Class AA Memorial Day Legion baseball tournament on Sunday, scoring the deciding run of their 4-3 win in the fourth inning.
The Chargers led early, 2-0 and 3-0 after the first and third innings, before the Senators closed the gap to 4-2 heading into the fifth. Neither team could score over the next two frames, and after Great Falls was blanked in the top of the seventh, Helena pushed across another marker in the bottom half of the inning for the final, one-run margin.
Wyatt Bleskin led the Electric City with two hits, while Cade Stuff drove in Bryce Krattiger the winning run with a sacrifice fly.
Braden Welty collected the win in the pitchers’ duel, with relief help from Chase Linn. Tanner McMahon was hung with the loss for Helena. Eamonn Byrne relieved the last two innings of scoreless ball.
Pacing the Senators at the plate were Conor McCarvel with two hits, a triple by Colin Sassano, Andrew Rosston’s double, and RBIs by Jackson Maynard, Payton Pappas and Kienan Stief.
