The Helena Independents went 2-3 over the Memorial Day weekend as they hosted their second annual Memorial Day B Tournament at Kindrick Legion Field. The Independents rallied from behind with a three run 7th inning to win their first game against the Bozeman Spikes, 7-6. Brady Anderson hit a clutch two run single with the bases loaded to tie the game at six all, and then Kadyn Craigle finished his 3-3 day with an RBI single plating the go-ahead run. Peyton Witham also added two hits on the night, and Hunter Sickerson shut down the Spikes offense by pitching a scoreless final three innings, picking up the win.
The Independents were outscored 26-5 over the next 3 games before winning the last game of the tournament 13-3 over the Gallatin Valley Posse. On the mound, Sickerson again picked up the victory in four innings of work. Witham was credited with the save.
Anderson hit safely in all five of the Memorial Day tournaments games, producing 3 RBI. Other key offensive contributors for the tournament were Craigle, Walter Evans, Sam Shepherd, Matt Krieger, and Ryan Barrett.
The Independents next travel to Lewistown on Saturday for a pair of games before hosting the Bitterroot Red Sox at the Helena Ryan Field 13 on Sunday.
