The Class B Helena Independents split a four-game series against the Missoula Mavericks last weekend, improving to 6-4 on the year. On Saturday, the Independents dropped the curtain-raiser 7-4, before winning the nightcap in six innings, 17-4. In Game 2, Brady Anderson was credited with the win after striking out five in four innings, while Sam Shepherd earned the save.
On Sunday, the Independents won Game 1 16-6 in six innings, but came up short in the second contest, 5-6. Ryan Barrett pitched the win, fanning six in three frames, with Matt Krieger collecting the save. Hunter Sickerson was strong in relief in Game 2, not allowing a base runner over the final two stanzas, with the help of a solid defense.
Helena’s top hitters over the weekend were Zach Spiroff (10 for 15, four doubles, nine RBIs) and Sickerson (7-14, nine RBIs), who batted .667 and .500, respectively. Walter Evans (six RBIs) posted a .444 average, Peyton Witham (double) batted .429, and Brady Anderson (two doubles, four RBIs) hit .357.
