On a rained shortened weekend, Coach Tom Burnett’s Helena Independents improved their record to 8-4 with a 2-game sweep of the Great Falls Chargers B on Saturday.
Pitching was the highlight of the weekend for the Independents as both starting pitchers threw complete 7-inning games. In game 1, Walter Evans threw just 67-pitches, while striking out 4 and walking 2 on his way to a 3-hitter and an 8-0 victory.
Game 2 saw an ace performance by Hunter Sickerson who carried a no hit bid in to the 7th inning, before a short fly ball to left field with one out broke it up; Sickerson struck out 6 and walked 2 in the 6-0 victory.
The offense on Saturday for the Independents came at a premium due to the credit of the pitching and defense of the Great Falls Chargers. Kadyn Craigle and Evans were the RBI leaders on the weekend with 2 RBIs apiece. Six other Independents recorded at least 1 RBI over the weekend.
The Independents next home game will be Saturday, May 21st, on Field 13 at the Ryan Fields.
