Independents sweep Spikes

The Helena Independents swept a Class B doubleheader from the Bozeman Spikes recently, 21-2 and 12-1, both games ending in five innings.

Ryan Barret led the offense in the curtain-raiser, going 3 for 4 with a grand slam, a double and six RBIs. Colter Bauch (double, four RBIs) and Walter Evans (triple, three RBIs) joined in on the hit parade. Pitchers Seth Barrett, Peyton Witham and Sam Shepherd collaborated for a three-hitter against the Spikes.

In the nightcap, Brady Anderson and Matthew Krieger drove in two runs apiece. Anderson also started on the bump and worked 3 1/3 innings for the win, striking out six batsmen. Ryan Barrett mopped up the final 1 2/3 frames in relief.

Next, the Independents will host the Class B, Helena Memorial Tournament at Kindrick Legion Field Field, set to run Friday through Monday.
