The Missoula Mavericks’ Trevor Dickey pitched a complete-game win against the Helena Senators on Saturday, 8-3, while scattering seven hits in the Class AA tilt at Kindrick Legion Field.

Missoula led wire to wire, pulling ahead 5-0 after five innings and 6-1 after six frames. Both clubs tallied two runs each in the ninth stanza, the game concluding a five-game homestand for the Senators.

Helena drops to 31-19 overall and 5-7 in the conference. The Mavs are 8-4 in league play.

Dickey, who threw just 95 pitches, struck out two, walked four and allowed two earned runs.

Jack Shevalier started for the local nine and was saddled with the loss. He went 4 2/3 innings, giving up five hits and five runs, three of which were unearned. Shevalier whiffed five Missoula batters. Henry Bowers and Danny Burton relieved the rest of the way.

The Senators committed five errors in the field.

Jesson Preston paced the Garden City squad’s offense, going 3 for 5, with two RBIs. Helena’s mult-hit games belonged to Jackson Thennis (double, RBI) and Carter Pappas, at two hits apiece.

“Not a great ballgame (for us) in a number of ways, but the kids are tough and they will rebound,” Senators coach Dave Thennis said.
