The Helena Reps split a pair of conference games with the Dillon Cubs on a blisteringly hot Saturday, losing the first game 5-4 in 9 innings on a walk off single by Jamey Richardson before bouncing back with a runaway 16-8 win in the second game.
In game one, the Reps trailed 4-0 heading into the 6th inning when they plated two on RBI singles by Robert McCarvel and Austin Whitehouse. Then in the 7th, Ray Moore, Jr. hit a clutch two-run RBI double to tie the game at 4 all and send the game into extra innings.
McCarvel was 3-4 with an RBI. He singled in the second, fourth, and sixth innings.
Tanner McMahon and Andrew Rosston were outstanding on the mound for the Reps. McMahon gave up no earned runs on four hits and six strikeouts over 5 innings, and Rosston allowed one run on one hit over 3 2/3. Rosston was credited with the loss.
In game two, the Reps racked up 16 runs on 11 hits, but the story of the game was the hitting of McCarvel, who was 4-5 with two doubles and a 3-run home run in the 7th. His shot over the left field fence helped him finish the game with 8 RBIs, completing a stellar 7-9 performance at the plate on Saturday.
Moore and Isaiah Mesa also had 2-hit games to help the Reps to victory. Moore, McCarvel, Colin Sassano, Talon Burchard, and Carter Wald teamed up to score 14 of the 16 Reps runs.
Brett Jacobs got the win, going 5 innings and giving up 3 earned runs, striking out four.
The split leaved the Reps record at 24-10 on the season. They next play at the Mission Valley Mariners Firecracker tournament in Polson, Mont. starting Thursday, July 2.
