By Curt Synness, Helena IR

The Helena Reps placed runner-up at Missoula’s Class A Memorial Day Tournament, losing to the Bitterroot Bucs 7-2 in the championship game.

Helena finished with a 3-2 record in the tourney, going 1-2 in their final three games. The Reps lost to the Bucs 7-1 on Sunday, and then beat Bozeman 2-1 on Monday morning to reach the chipper in a rematch versus Bitterroot.

Helena was hurt by four errors in the title tilt Monday night, with only two of the Bucs’ seven runs being earned. The champs scored three runs in the first and second innings, and one in the third.

Carter Wald started on the mound for the Reps and worked the first two frames, and sustained the loss. Riley Chisholm and Caleb Shamley relieved the final four innings of 1-hit, 1-run ball.

Helena collected four singles, by Wald, Caeden Suero, Conor McCarvel and Jacob Howell. Suero and Ty McGurran both had RBIs.

Liam LeCoure pitched the complete game win, while he and Bitterroot teammate each stroked RBI doubles.

In the win over Bozeman, Keaton Ralston and Nik Jemmings collaborated on a 2-hitter and combined for five strikeouts. Jemmings earned the win in five innings of relief.

Helena pushed across the deciding second run in the third inning, when Conor McCarvel singled, stole second base, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and raced home on Suero’s RBI single.

Tanner McMahon chipped in with a double, McGurran singled, and Wald posted an RBI.

Coach Jon Burnett’s Reps now stand at 17-4 on the year.
