Another game, another comeback to keep the winning streak alive.
The Helena Reps used another big 8th inning to pull out a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over the Missoula Mavericks on Friday, outhitting their opponents 13 to 6 to continue their season-opening winning streak at eight.
Helena overcame sloppy play in the field for the win, committing five errors in the field behind four Helena pitchers who did not allow a single earned run. Despite the terrific work on the mound, the Reps found themselves in a 4-2 hole going into the bottom of the 7th inning.
After a Conor McCarvel sacrifice fly closed the gap to 4-3, Brady Grigsby drilled a game-tying double in the 8th inning after big hits from Jacob Howell and Hunter Sickerson. Ty McGurran then laced a go-ahead single to take the lead for good. Pitchers Rudy Barkley and Ryan Barrett then combined to close out the game in the 9th for the win. Barkley was credited with the win, and Barrett earned the save on the night.
Howell and Grigsby led the way offensively for the Reps, each collecting three hits with a double and an RBI on the night. McGurran and Matt Krieger also added a pair of hits as well.
Coach Jon Burnett’s Reps remain undefeated at 8-0 on the season. They next hit the road for doubleheader in Bozeman on Saturday at 1pm and then open the Class A Southern District Conference schedule on Sunday with a doubleheader in Anaconda on Sunday.
