The Helena Reps will attempt to qualify for their second successive Class A State Legion Tournament beginning Thursday, when they take part in the Southern A District tourney in Dillon. Helena was last year’s district runner-up.
The No. 3 seeded Reps (42-14 overall, 18-6 conference) will meet No. 6 Livingston in an opening-round contest, slated for 8:30 a.m. at the Karl Tyler Ballpark.
Host Dillon and Belgrade are the top two seeds in the tournament.
Two of the Reps’ top players, Andrew Rosston and Tayler Carlson, were recently moved up the Senators. But coach Jon Burnett’s Reps boast seven .300 hitters, led Caeden Suero, who is batting a cool .430 and leads the team with 51 RBIs. He is followed by Carter Wald with a .394 average. He is also the team’s No. 2 in RBIs, driving in 37 runs.
Rounding out the club’s highest averages are Kellan Elder at .359, Brett Jacobs with a .356 mark, Ty McGurran at .342, Conor McCarvel’s .336 and Talon Burchard at .324.
Jacobs is Helena’s winningest pitcher, with a 9-3 record and a 3.80 ERA. Nik Jemmings is 4-1 with a 2.48 ERA, while Keaton Ralston is 4-2 and a 3.73 ERA.
