The Helena Reps moved to 3-0 at the Mission Valley Mariners Firecracker Tournament in Polson, Mont. with a big win over the Dillon Cubs 8-6 on Friday.
Down 6-3 with two outs in the bottom of the 5th, the Reps were looking for a clutch hit with the bases loaded, and they got one a big way from Carter Wald. Wald lined a 0-1 pitch into left for a base hit, scoring Ray Moore, Jr. and Ryan Arntson to pull the Reps to 6-5, and Tanner McMahon and Wald advanced to third and second respectively on the throw. On the very next pitch, Eamonn Byrne laced a single to right, scoring McMahon and Wald to take the lead at 7-6, and the Reps never reliquished the lead.
For the Reps, Wald (2 hits, 3 RBIs), Byrne (3 hits, 2 RBIs), McMahon (2 hits, 2BB, 3 runs), and Talon Burchard (1 hit, 3 BB) paced the offense.
On the mound, Caleb Jackson gave up 1 earned run on 3 hits, walking 4 and striking out 2 over 4.0 innings. Andrew Rosston was awarded the win, giving up 2 earned runs on 4 hits, walking 2 and striking out 2 over 3.0 innings.
The win moves the Reps to 27-10 on the season. They next play the Glacier Twins B on Saturday at noon in Ronan.
