The Helena Reps swept the Dillon Cubs in a pair of Class A Montana Southern District Conference games on Friday, getting a game-winning, base-loaded walk-off single from Brady Grigsby to win game one 6-5, and then running away in a shortened 10-run-rule game two victory, 13-3.
In game one, Helena fell down 5-0 before scoring five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Grigsby drove in an RBI on a hard single to left, followed by back-to-back RBI triples from Zach Spinoff and Ty McGurran. Kaydn Craigle tied the game at five with a sacrifice fly, scoring McGurran.
After walks issued to Grady Koenig and Matt Krieger in the bottom of the seventh, Jacob Howell singled to load the bases, and Grigsby brought home the game winner.
Craigle and Grigsby lead the Reps, gathering a couple of hits each, while Grigsby and Spiroff each collected two RBI. Ryan Barrett started the game on the mound and went 5.0 innings, allowing two earned runs and seven hits, striking out three. Walter Evans pitched the final two innings, only allowing one hit and shutting out the Cubs to earn the win.
In game two, walks were the story of the game, as the Cubs issued eight walks; the Reps walked five times in the bottom of the third alone in the big eight run inning.
Howell, Koenig, and Craigle each gathered a pair of hits, with Howell leading the way with a double and three RBI.
Hunter Sickerson again pitched a quality complete game to move his record to 4-0 on the season, giving up two earned runs on four hits, striking out three.
Coach Jon Burnett’s Reps move to 6-0 in the conference on the year and 18-3 overall. They will next host the Cloninger Classic at Kindrick Legion Field June 8-11.
