The Helena Senators split an American Legion baseball doubleheader on Tuesday, with the Billings Royals defeating the Senators 7-1 in the first game and the Senators winning the second game 10-4.
In the first game, the Royals (44-11) scored three runs in the first inning and added four more in the fifth. Danny Burton and Jackson Maynard each picked up two hits apiece in the game, with Burton driving in the lone run. Riley Pickens took the loss on the mound.
The Senators broke open the second game with a seven-run sixth inning. Payton Pappas and Jackson Thennis had two RBIs each for Helena. Thennis had four hits and scored two runs in the game, and Nick Wrigg and Carter Pappas also chipped in with multi-hit games. Koby Griffin was the winning pitcher, going 5 1/3 innings, giving up one run on seven hits and five strikeouts.
The Senators record now stands at 33-20, and 7-8 in conference play.
