BOZEMAN — Colin Sassano and Ray Moore Jr. drove in three runs apiece, spearheading the Helena Senators 12-7 Class AA Legion baseball victory over Bozeman on the road Thursday.
The win moved coach Dave Thennis’ Senators to 14-10 on the year.
Helena scored 11 of their runs in two big innings — 6 tallies in fourth frame, and 5 in the seventh.
The Bucks actually out-hit the Senators 10-6, but were hurt by six errors, as only five of the Capital City ballclub’s runs were earned. Helena’s defense did not commit an error.
Sassano went 2 for 4, while Moore’s lone hit was a double. Eamonn Byrne and Conor McCarvel each posted a pair of RBIs, and Payton Pappas laced a triple.
Three Helena pitchers collaborated on the victory, with starter Keaton Ralston going six innings for the win. He gave up six hits and two runs, while striking out four batsmen. Pappas and Tayler Carlson relieved the final three stanzas.
For the Bucks, Bailey Paddox had three hits, and Jake Buck drove in three runs. Bozeman used five pitchers, with starter Adam Hubley sustaining the loss.
“It was a good win on the road, the kids were sharp mentally tonight,” Senators’ skipper Thennis said. “Defense was the difference in the ballgame, and Keaton pitched very well.”
