Colin Sassano and Ray Moore Jr. sparked the Helena Senators’ 13-5 victory over the Great Falls Chargers on the road Wednesday.
Sassano went 3 for 3, lacing a double and a triple and scoring twice, while Moore was 2 for 5, with a double and three RBIs.
The score was tied at 4-all after three innings, and remained that way until the top of the seventh, when the Senators exploded for five big runs to pull ahead 9-4. Helena then outscored Great Falls 4-1 over the final two frames for the eight-run triumph.
Coach Dave Thennis’ Senators improve to 11-6 after the Class AA Legion win.
Helena used five pitchers on the night, including Payton Pappas, Tanner McMahon, Jackson Maynard and Andrew Rosston. McMahon worked four innings of scorless relief, scattering five hits, striking out one with no walks. Rosston was credited with the win.
Senators teammates Eamonn Byrne stroked a pair of singles, while Kellan Elder and Kienan Stief both doubled.
“Tanner McMahon settled us down tonight,” Thennis said. “Eventually, we hit a bit and capitalized on their mistakes.”
