The marathon game between the Helena Senators and Missoula Mavericks played late into the night Wednesday, but Ray Moore, Jr.‘s go-ahead RBI triple in the top of the 17th inning, scoring Colin Sassano, proved to be the difference. Andrew Rosston‘s subsequent RBI double tacked on an insurance run as the visiting Senators came out on top 9-7.
The AA American Legion baseball game was tied 5-5 at the end of nine regulation innings at Lindborg-Cregg Field in Missoula as the Senators scored three runs to tie it in the top of the 9th with some clutch hitting from Kienan Stief, Moore, Sassano, and Rosston. Helena went ahead 6-5 with Eamonn Byrne‘s heads-up base running in the 10th, only to have the Mavs tie it back up. Again, the Senators took the lead in the top of the 13th on Jackson Maynard‘s bunt single, but the Mavs answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning on James Martin‘s RBI single.
The Mavs had their chance in the home 14th when Rosston walked the bases loaded, starting all three batters on 3-0 counts, but he worked out of the one-out jam without allowing a run.
Offensively for the Senators, Ryan Arntson, Sassano, Stief, Byrne, Rosston, Maynard, and Taylor Carlson all collected multi-hit games.
The Senators used Carter Pappas, Payton Pappas, Keaton Ralston, Brett Jacobs, Rosston, and Moore on the mound, with Moore picking up the win in his two shutout innings.
