The pitching of Riley Pickens and the hitting of Ryan Dorvall propelled the Helena Senators to a 12-2 Class AA Legion baseball victory over the Great Falls Chargers at Kindrick Legion Field on Wednesday. But the 12 errors by the visitors didn’t help Great Falls, either.
The hosts scored two runs in the third inning, four in the fifth, one in the sixth, three in the seventh and two more in the eighth to force the 10-run rule and an early stoppage.
Dorvall paced the Senators with three singles and a pair of RBIs. Nick Wrigg, Kenny Wilson and Danny Burton chipped in with two hits apiece. Wrigg rapped a double, and teammate Koby Griffin laced a triple. Wilson and Wrigg each had a stolen base.
Pickens started on the bump and worked six innings, allowing five hits and one run, to collect the mound win. He was relieved by Henry Bowers, who went the final two frames. Justyn Markinko took the loss.
The hosts defense shined as well, committing just one error in the field.
“We had strong pitching from Riley and Henry, with strong defense behind them,” said coach Dave Thennis, whose charges improve to 6-2 on the year.
