Sens sweep GVO

Senators sweep Outlaws

By Curt Synness, Helena IR

Pappas won both ends of a doubleheader win over Gallatin Valley on Sunday – well, the Pappas twins, to be exact – and host Helena pounded out 20 hits in the nightcap, as the Senators swept the Outlaws 5-1 and 11-1.

Payton Pappas started on the bump in the lid-lifter at Kindrick Legion Field, and threw a 4-hitter over six innings of work, while striking out seven GVO batsmen and walking one. Pappas gave up a run in the opening inning, before shutting out the Outlaws over the next five frames for the win.

Reliever Henry Bowers closed out the scoreless with one hit for the save.

Payton’s brother Carter started game two and pitched the win, going four stanzas and permitting one run on just two hits. He fanned three and did not give up a base on balls. Tristan Siegers relieved the last two innings of 1-hit, scoreless ball.

Ryan Arntson and Colin Sassano paced the Senators’ offense in the first tilt, with two hits apiece. Sassano, Koby Griffin and Kienan Stief all had doubles and an RBI, each.

Griffin led the host’s 20-hit attack in the nightcap, going 4 for 5, with an RBI. Jackson Maynard was 3-4 with a double and an RBI, while Stief (two doubles), Thennis (two RBIs), Bowers (two RBIs), Sassano (RBI) and Arntson (RBI) rapped a pair of base knocks, apiece. Payton chipped in with a two-bagger and an RBI.

“Both Payton and Carter Pappas pitched well today,” said Helena skipper Dave Thennis, whose charges improve to 11-9 on the year. “We managed the after graduation party well enough to win two.”
