The Helena Senators dropped their Class AA Legion season opener in Missoula on Friday, when the Mavericks posted a run-rule win, 20-10, in seven innings.

The Mavericks outhit the Senators 24-15, led by Nick Yovetich and Jon Mitchell, who both went 4 for 6 with a triple.

Ryan Arntson paced Helena’s offense, going 4 for 5, followed by Colin Sassano at 3 for 4. Teammates Carter Pappas and Henry Bowers each banged a double.

Missoula starter Dylan Barkley went five innings and earned the win. The Senators used five pitchers on the night, with Tristan Siegers suffering the loss.

“When you look at the scoreboard it doesn’t look great, but when you examine the details it’s encouraging,” Senators coach Dave Thennis said. “Missoula simply hit the ball. We competed well and really show some promise. We move to the next game.”
