Sens drop pair to Kalispell

By the Helena IR

With the regular season winding down, Legion teams are battling for positioning.

The Helena Senators, in four place in the standings, fell just short in a pair of those hard-fought battles on Monday, dropping a pair of games to Kalispell by matching scores of 3-2.

The Senators were actually outhit 9-2 in the opening game, but strong defensive play kept them in the game to the end. The nightcap saw the Sens turn in a 10-7 hitting advantage, but Kalispell still managed to get the edge on the scoreboard, winning it in extras in the bottom of the ninth.

“Our kids played the game the right way today,” coach Dave Thennis said. “I am proud of the effort. We just came up short.”

Koby Griffin had a big day for the Sens, giong a combined 3 for 6. Kienan Stief went hitless in the opener, but was a perfect 3 for 3 in the second game.

The Senators will return to the Capital City to play host to the Billings Royals in a three-game series, starting Wednesday. The opening game is set for 7 p.m., with the teams scheduled to play a pair on Thursday. The first game of that doubleheader is slated for 3 p.m.
