Kienan Steif and Nick Wrigg powered the Helena Senators’ comeback in a 15-7 romp over the Great Falls Chargers on the road Wednesday.
The Chargers built a 6-0 lead after six innings — with Great Falls starter Daniel Bonilla pitching one-hit shutout ball — before Helena erupted for six runs in the seventh frame to knot the score. The visitors then added six more in the eighth to put the game on ice.
Stief was just 1 for 5 in the game, but the hit was a big one — a grand slam to finish with four RBIs and three runs. Wrigg was 3 for 5, with two doubles and two runs scored.
Also chipping in at the plate were Henry Bowers (two runs), Ryan Dorvall and Jackson Thennis (two runs), with two hits apiece. Koby Griffin was 1 for 4, with three RBIs and two stolen bases, while Jackson Maynard ripped a two-run triple.
Jack Shevalier started on the hill for the Senators and went four innings before giving way to a trio of relievers. Riley Pickens was credited with the win.
“It was a good ball game; we had some great performances by our bullpen,” said coach Dave Thennis, whose Senators improve to 10-3. “Danny (Burton), Riley and Carter (Pappas) did a great job.
“Our hitters struggled early but really came on strong. Bonilla was tough for them.”
