In a game that saw multiple lead changes, 27 runs scored, and 28 hits, the Helena Reps couldn’t quite pull out a victory over the Belgrade Bandits, falling 14-13 in ten innings.
Helena entered the bottom of the tenth with the lead, when Colin Sassano took off from first on an early steal attempt, distracting pitcher Cal Holgate just enough for Ryan Arntson to score to take the lead 13-12. But in the bottom of the inning with the bases loaded, pitcher Talon Burchard hit PJ Stump to allow in the tying run. Then, down to his last strike, Ryan Ciglar checked his swing and hit a nubber off the end of his bat down to first base, hitting the dirt and spinning away from first baseman Carter Wald before he was able to corral it, singling in the winning run.
The Reps pounded out 18 hits against the Bandits, with the entire lineup swinging well. Leading the charge was Sassano (3-4, 4 RBIs, double), Arntson (3-7, 4 runs, double), and Isaiah Mesa (3-5). Wald, Robert McCarvel, Ray Moore, and Austin Whitehouse also contributed with 2 hits a piece.
Max Nielson shined in pitching relief for the Reps, allowing only one earned run on two hits over 4 1/3 innings, striking out four. However, the combination of four pitchers struggled on the mound for the Reps, allowing 8 walks, 3 hit batters, and 8 steals. Burchard took the loss on the mound.
The Reps head to Butte today for a doubleheader against the Muckers at 3:00 p.m. Helena’s record now stands at 33-13.
