Powered by Nick Wrigg’s bat and Jack Shevalier’s left arm, the Helena Senators closed out the final day of the Yakima Tournament with a win, beating the host Yakima Beetles 6-3.
Wrigg went 4 for 4 at the plate, ripping two doubles, scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs. He also stole a base. Koby Griffin (two RBIs) and Jackson Thennis (double) were both 2 for 4.
Shevalier started on the hill for Helena and worked six strong innings, giving up six hits and two earned runs, while striking out three. Closer Payton Pappas relieved a hitless and scoreless seventh for the save.
“Riding the bus back home after a win sure beats riding after a loss,” said coach Dave Thennis, whose Senators improve to 23-11 on the year. “Our kids really had to dig deep today. It was the last day of a long road trip so energy was tough, but we beat a sound Yakima team.”
