Opportunity knocks for Sens in 2024

HELENA — Tuesday’s practice lesson – from coach Jon Burnett to a combined group of Helena Senators and Reps – was baserunning.

That skill, Burnett said, wins state championships – just ask Colt Tietje, who scored the winning run on a chopper to second last August in a title game against the Billings Scarlets.

Helena now has home field advantage to chase a third state championship in four seasons, something not accomplished at the Class AA level since 2011 (Billings Scarlets).

“We’ve been looking forward to this year for a while,” Burnett said.

“We’re gonna be a lot better at the end of the year than we will be at the beginning. I wouldn’t say we’re the favorite, but I think we’ll compete, for sure.”
