The Helena Reps hosted the Missoula Mavericks in their Class A Legion baseball season curtain-raiser in a doubleheader Sunday and came away with a split, dropping the first game, 3-0, before shading the Mavs, 3-2, in the nightcap.

In the opener at Kindrick Legion Field, Missoula pitchers Thomas Martin and Kellan Feeley combined for a six-hit shutout. Helena starter Cy Miller was hung with the defeat. Jake Lintner posted two RBIs for the Mavs while the Reps were led by Ethan Keintz's two hits.
First-year coach (and former Carroll College quarterback) Dane Broadhead's Helena squad bounced back in the second game, paced by Keintz's two RBIs and two base knocks by Seth Barrett. The home team used four pitchers in the win -- Jake Gestring, Joe Hurlbert, Chase Neilsen and Barrett -- who collaborated on limiting the Mavs to just three hits. Brent DeMinck sustained the loss for the Garden City crew.
